A little smallness.
February 22, 2009

Before we sleep we go out again into the night. We walk up the beach under the stars. And when we are tired of walking, we lie flat on the sand under a bowl of stars. We feel stretched, expanded to take in their compass. They pour into us until we are filled with stars, up to the brim.
This is what one thirsts for, I realize, after the smallness of the day, of work, of details, of intimacy–even of communication, one thirsts for the magnitude and universality of a night full of stars, pouring into one like a fresh tide.
Excerpt from Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
It is good to feel small sometimes.

P.S. Read it. I know you’ll like it.
My favorite.

This was my favorite day because I was at this concert with my favorite person and (amazingly) got to hear my favorite singer.
The song starts in the middle, so you’ll just have to buy it to hear the real deal.
XO, me
Happy heart day.

From the sea.

But it must not be sought for or–heaven forbid!–dug for. No, no dredging of the sea bottom here. That would defeat one’s purpose. The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as the beach–waiting for a gift from the sea.

Luke 2:8-14
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Merry Christmas! XO, me
p.s. Am I the only one that didn’t know that the shepherds were sore afraid? KJV says people were sore afraid a lot.
